Balanced or unbalanced?

An unbalanced seal suits low stuffing-box pressure; once pressure climbs, a balanced seal runs cooler and lasts longer. See balanced vs unbalanced seals.

Single spring or multi-spring?

Several small springs give even face loading in a short axial length; a single large spring tolerates clogging fluids better. See multiple spring mechanical seals.
