Why chemical sealing punishes the wrong choice
- Corrosion attacks every part — faces, springs, hardware and elastomers all have to survive the media, not just the faces.
- Crystallizing and polymerizing media foul the seal faces; the flush plan matters as much as the seal.
- Hazardous and toxic duty needs a double seal with a barrier fluid — a single seal is a leak waiting to happen.
- Temperature swings distort faces and harden the wrong rubber; FFKM and metal hardware are the safe path.

Chemical Process Pump Seal FAQ
When do I need a double seal?
Whenever the media is hazardous, toxic, flammable or simply too valuable to leak. A double seal with a barrier fluid keeps the process off the atmosphere and gives early warning of a failure.
What faces and elastomers for acids?
Silicon-carbide on silicon-carbide faces with FFKM (perfluoroelastomer) secondaries handle the widest range of acids. EPDM works for many caustics but fails on solvents and oils.
Do you build to API 682?
Yes. We supply API 682 single and double cartridge seals to the standard’s arrangement and piping-plan requirements, sized to ANSI B73.1 and ISO 2858 pumps.
