Why hygienic sealing is different
- It has to be cleanable — crevices that trap product fail audits; hygienic seal geometry is non-negotiable.
- CIP and SIP cycles hit the seal with hot caustic, acid and steam every day — the elastomer has to take all three.
- Sticky and high-sugar media crystallize on the faces; a flush or quench keeps them clean.
- Materials must be FDA-compliant — the face, the rubber and any flush all touch product.

Which elastomer survives CIP/SIP?
EPDM handles the hot caustic, acid and steam of clean-in-place and sterilize-in-place cycles. Nitrile degrades fast under that chemistry.
