Why HVAC pump sealing is its own problem
- Continuous running — chilled- and condenser-water pumps rarely stop, so a marginal seal fails in service, not on the bench.
- Open cooling-tower loops carry scale and biofouling that abrade soft faces — silicon carbide earns its keep here.
- Glycol and water treatment chemistry attacks the wrong elastomer; EPDM, not Nitrile, is the safe default.
- Uptime is the product — a leaking seal in a plant room means downtime tenants notice.

What seal faces suit HVAC pumps?
Closed chilled-water loops run clean, so carbon-against-ceramic is enough. Open condenser and cooling-tower loops carry scale and fouling, so a silicon-carbide face lasts far longer.
Which elastomer for glycol systems?
EPDM. It handles water-glycol and common treatment chemistry; Nitrile swells and fails. For higher temperatures, Viton (FKM) is the step up.
Can you match Bell & Gossett or Armstrong seals?
