None of the ten mechanical seal manufacturers in China compared here names an API 682 category. One, listed on a stock exchange, names no certification at all on its own English about page, and another still publishes ISO 9001:2000, an edition superseded twice.
Certification lines do not sort ten near-identical factory pages, and rank order is not the buying decision. Four things can be checked before you enquire: which API 682 category the factory names, who machines its seal faces, who measured its delivery record, and whether it handles export.
Run those four against one pump duty and ten names become three to five.
How to Read an API 682 Claim from a Chinese Seal Factory
API 682 is written in three categories, and a bare compliance line leaves the category out. Category 1 runs to 20 bar gauge, about 290 psig, on ASME B73.1 and ISO 3069 pumps. Categories 2 and 3 run to 40 bar gauge, about 580 psig, on API 610 pumps.
Category 3 adds enhanced documentation the factory carries, not the seal. All three sit under one design-life objective: 25,000 running hours, about three years of continuous duty.
The basis changed on 1 May 2014, when the 4th Edition replaced absolute pressure with gauge. Categories 2 and 3 went from 42 bar absolute to 40 bar gauge, Category 1 from 22 to 20.
Across the industry, the superseded numbers still circulate: one product sheet headed “API 682 4th edition” still prints 42 bar, 609 PSI, for Categories 2 and 3.
Ask for the category in writing. A factory that will not name one has answered you for every duty above 20 bar gauge.
Whether the Factory Machines Its Own Seal Faces
Seal-face capability is a manufacturing question, not a materials list. A factory that grinds and laps carbon, silicon carbide and alumina ceramic on site can change a face grade for your duty. One that assembles bought-in faces can only change suppliers.

The check costs one email: ask which faces are ground and lapped in the plant, and who supplies the rest.
A factory that laps its own silicon carbide can quote a slurry or chemical duty it has run.
If two factories tie on category and face capability and neither shows a delivery record anyone else measured, price a build to your own drawing. An OEM, ODM or private-label run to dimensions you already hold removes the catalogue-fit question.
The hidden cost most buyers miss is the lead time that comes back with every face change an assembler has to outsource.
Which Delivery and Export Claims a Chinese Seal Manufacturer Can Back Up
A claim on a factory page is one of three things. A certificate carries a scope and an edition, both checkable; a trading platform’s on-time figure was measured against real transactions.
Everything else was typed by the vendor.
Ningbo CF Seals showed 97.8% on-time delivery and 4.9 out of 5.0 across 13 reviews in August 2026, Jiashan Xingda 92.6% across 12. Both were higher two years ago, at 99.0% and 94.1%, and the pages carry no methodology or audit timestamp.
Read the account, not the company: Jiashan Xingda’s profile shows two years in business, and the firm has been a chemical-seal specialist far longer.
Self-reported figures disagree with themselves once two copies sit side by side. YALAN’s own site states 70 full-time employees and 13 million dollars of output a year, while a third-party roster for the same company prints 15 million.
Export handling has a cheap proxy: ask for the sample lead time and documentation set before the price. Samples in 7 to 15 days and bulk in 30 to 45 are ordinary trade practice.
Cowseal publishes this page and sits in the table on the same terms as the other nine: Cowseal ltd., USCI 92330203MA2AF0CK1Y, Haishu District, Ningbo, ISO 9001 and CE.
Carbon, silicon carbide and ceramic faces are machined in-house at Chehe Industrial Park, and no platform-verified delivery figure sits behind any of it.
Rows run alphabetically, not by rank. Last reviewed August 2026.

No factory in the table names a category. Above 20 bar gauge, that absence is the answer.
How to Shortlist Mechanical Seal Manufacturers in China
A first enquiry round should go to three to five factories, not ten and not one. Below three there is nothing to negotiate against and no fallback when a sample fails. Above five you are running a supplier qualification programme instead of buying a seal.
Cut by evidence reason, not by rank: a factory drops out because it names no category and your chamber runs at 25 bar gauge, or because it cannot say which faces it laps.
Ask the survivors for three things:
- The API 682 category, printed on the datasheet
- The face pair, and which plant grinds and laps it
- One delivery record and one third-party inspection, each with a name attached
A shortlist that comes back at one name or none is telling you about the duty, not about China. A 40 bar gauge duty with no category named anywhere means widening the round to the global seal manufacturer roster.
Before You Send the First Enquiry
Run the four checks against one pump duty and let the answers do the cutting. A factory that names no API 682 category has answered for every duty above 20 bar gauge.
The grade of proof behind a claim, not the claim itself, is what sorts mechanical seal manufacturers in China into the three to five worth an enquiry.
The names will drift too. Every platform figure here moved within 26 months, and what survives is the habit of asking whether a delivery record was measured or self-reported.
